Detective Sergeant William (Bill) Qualls currently serves as the Bomb Squad Commander, a position he has held for 12 years. During his 18-year career as a full-time Bomb Technician, Sgt Qualls has been actively involved with over 5,000 requests for service within New England. He has been a Trooper with the Massachusetts State Police for over 22 years and an Explosive Detection K9 Handler for 12 years. Sgt Qualls holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Massachusetts in Finance and Economics as well as a Masters Degree from Western New England University in Criminal Justice.
Detective Sergeant Qualls has instructed nationally and internationally on such topics as: post blast investigation, SWAT integration, CIED response, CBRN integration and extensively on HME response. Sgt Qualls has recently been a lead developer and presenter for the NATO EOD COE phase 1 and phase 2 Homemade Explosives Course in Trencin, Slovakia as well as the Europol HME curriculum in Dublin, Ireland. He is a qualified expert witness in IED and explosives cases throughout the Commonwealth. Sgt Qualls is the co-author and catalyst behind the Commonwealth’s comprehensive IED and explosives statute, which was passed into law on July of 2010
Detective Sergeant Qualls is a native of Dorchester, MA and currently resides in Plymouth with his wife and four children.
