Dr. Wendin D. Smith is the Senior Advisor to the Commanding General of the U.S. Special Operations Command for Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD). Previously, she served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for CWMD, where she was responsible for establishing policy and guidance to protect U.S. and Allied forces against WMD attacks, preventing and countering global WMD trafficking, and for policies aimed at building CWMD capacity. At large corporations and two consultancies she founded, Dr. Smith has supported CWMD programs within the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and the National Nuclear Security Administration. In the late-1990s, while living in Moscow, Russia, she served as Director of the U.S. Information Agency’s American Center.
A graduate of Dartmouth College, she received her Ph.D. and Master’s degrees from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Dr. Smith previously served on Fletcher’s Board of Advisors, and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Webb Schools. Dr. Smith is fluent in Russian and conversational in German.
