Officer Sieber is a member of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hazardous Materials Unit (HMU). The Unit investigates criminal hazardous materials/chemical waste incidents and terrorism related incidents involving Chemical, Biological and Radiological/Nuclear (CBRN) weapons. Officer Sieber joined the LAPD in 1989 and has been with the LAPD for 28+ years, and assigned to the Hazmat Unit since 1996. He is also the Unit’s terrorism coordinator, CBRN terrorism liaison with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and a sworn Special Deputy to the U.S. Department of Justice-Marshal Service.
In addition, Officer Sieber is an operational Task Force Officer (TFO) on the FBI’s
Joint Terrorism Task Force squad (Hazardous Materials Response Team).
Officer Sieber is one of the Department’s SME’s on terrorism response involving Nuclear-Biological-Chemical Weapons of Mass Destruction (NBC/WMD).
In October 2013, Officer Sieber authored a white paper entitled “Biological Agent Field Detection, A Prudent and Necessary Approach”. The paper was published in a December 2013 international CBRN Magazine.
