Christian F. Rees serves as the Director for the Counter Improvised Threat Technologies Department, Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). During his tenure at DTRA, COL Rees has served as the Deputy, Counter Improvised Threat Technologies Department; J8 Division Chief and Deputy for the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIDO); and the Deputy, Technology Strategy Branch, J8, JIDO. Prior to joining JIDO, COL Rees served as Chief of Staff, JFHQ, ORARNG; Director of Installations, ORNG; Dep Brigade CDR, 82 BDE; CDR, OR Training Command; Construction and Facilities Management Officer, ORNG; CDR, 2-641 AVN REGT; AVN TRNG and STND Branch Chief, ORARNG; XO/ S3, 641 MED BN (EVAC); CDR, Reconnaissance and Interdiction Det, ORARNG; S-2, 3-229 ATK HEL BN; XO, HHC, 11th AVN BDE; PLT LDR, 2-6 Air Cav; PLT LDR, 4-229 ATK HEL BN.
COL Rees is a native of Bend, Oregon, and received his ROTC commission at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He holds a Masters of Strategic Studies from the Army War College, a Masters of Architecture Degree from the University of Oregon, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Hospitality Management/ Finance from Cornell University. COL Rees is also a graduate of the Command and General Staff Course and Advanced Warfighter Course at Ft. Leavenworth, KS, the Military Intelligence Officer Advanced Course, Ft. Huachuca, AZ, and the Aviation Officer Basic Course, Ft. Rucker, AL.
COL Rees is Airborne qualified and a Senior Army Aviator. He is qualified in the AH-64 Apache, UH-60 Blackhawk, OH-58 Kiowa, UH-1 Iroquois, and C-12 Huron aircraft.
COL Rees has deployed in support of OPERATION NOBLE EAGLE and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. Awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/ 2 oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, GWOT Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ ‘M’ device, and Army Overseas Service Medal.
